Nokia Connection Manager - How to disable?

Notification area with Nokia Connection Manager After installing Nokia PC Suite 4 or 5 Nokia Connection Manager (NCM) will be started at each system start. This will be shown by an icon in the notification area (next to Windows' clock). Dependent on your configuration you may cannot establish infrared or serial connections (PC Suite 4 and 5).

Prevent Nokia Connection Manager from starting automatically

It is possible to prevent Nokia Connection Managers from starting each time. But Connection Manager may get started implicitly if you run some Nokia software or Winfonie mobile.

Manual procedure

Please note that you handle on your own risk when following these steps. We cannot take any warranty for data losses or damage to your system.

  • Windows 98, ME, XP, 2003 or Vista
    1. Click "Start" and "Run...".
    2. Enter "msconfig" and click "OK".
    3. In "System Configuration Utility" go to "Startup".
    4. Uncheck "NclTray" resp. "NclConf".
    5. Click "OK".

    You can undo this by re-checking the list entry.

  • Windows 95, NT or 2000

    You should only proceed if you are familiar with the registry editor.

    1. Click "Start" and "Run...".
    2. Enter "regedit" and click "OK".
    3. In the tree on the registry editor's left side go to the key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run".
    4. Note the value of "Nokia Tray Application". This might be "c:\Program Files\Common Files\Nokia\NCLTools\NclTray.exe".
    5. Delete "Nokia Tray Application".

    Caution: You can only undo this by re-entering the entry (string) "Nokia Tray Application" with the old value.

These changes take affect after system start.
